Abstract
O raid de Harper's Ferry John Brown de 1859 colocou a imprensa norte-americana e europeia, perante um acontecimento político-militar, com a capacidade de provocar uma guerra civil nos Estados Unidos. Neste artigo, analisamos do ponto de vista da imprensa portuguesa, as suas diferentes perceções e repercussões, permitindo compreender o impacto de uma forma de guerra irregular na opinião pública nacional.
The Harper's Ferry John Brown raid of 1859 put the North American and European press before a political-military event, with the ability to provoke a civil war in the United States. In this article, we analyze from the point of view of the Portuguese press, its different perceptions, and repercussions, allowing us to understand the impact of an irregular form of war on national public opinion.
