Abstract
Focusing on the exhibition that João Pedro Vale and Nuno Alexandre Ferreira presented in 2018 at Cristina Guerra Galery (Lisbon), this article addresses the strategies of discursive repression of homosexual identity during the Portuguese Estado Novo period. Analyzing the works exhibited and their critical reception, we used Foucault's conceptualization of the panopticon and archaeological strategy as a marginal archive (queer). Given the official suppression of the English word "homosexual", Vale and Ferreira respond with the word cruizing, so that we can classify a set of prohibited practices that, in Portuguese, not long ago could not have an appropriate name.
