Abstract

The introduction to the volume has four aims: firstly, to explain the reasons why Portuguese Fiscal History is understudied and underrepresented within the international literature; secondly, to highlight the main lines of research developed since the initial studies on this subject during the 1960s; thirdly, to establish initial comparative standards in the light of the Portuguese case’s first steps and developments and, last but not least, to establish possible links to other European case studies.
