Abstract
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book dedicates to the Revista da India (Magazine of India, 1914-1915) with particular focus on its opening Manifesto, signed by Paulino Dias. It reflects the impact of censorship and political persecution that marked Salazar’s dictatorship. The book approaches the cultural debates and artistic explorations, in particular regarding literature and cinema, promoted between 1947 and 1955 by the Itinerario. It focuses on the role of Itinerario in the circulation and reception of aesthetic currents and artistic and cultural productions from other latitudes - such as Italian cinematographic neorealism, African-American literature, Brazilian regionalism, and Portuguese literary neorealism, among others. The book also explores the trans-national circulation of ideas and texts between the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic, illustrating the magazine’s columns dedicated to Angolan literature and the links between Itinerario and the Brazilian magazine SUL.
