Abstract
Intrinsically photochromic ionic liquids can be prepared by simple combination of methyl orange, a well-known example of a photochromic azobenzene derivative, and the appropriate organic cations. These novel compounds are light responsive and maintain the properties peculiar to ionic liquids, a win-win situation.
