Interactive planning in CIM-CASE

An interactive planning approach to the generation of complex software architectures for advanced automation systems is presented. The concept of CIM-CASE is briefly summarized as a system that will support a systems' designer in deriving particular CIM architectures out of a reference model and resorting to an Electronic Catalog of CIM components. Particular emphasis is put on the hierarchical interactive planning approach used in CIM-CASE. Implementation details of a developed prototype are discussed. Following an IDEFO like representation, an interactive planning approach is applied for the design of new software architectures. This work has been developed in the context of CIM-PLATO, an Esprit project of the European Community, involving 14 partners (universities and industry) from 7 countries.
