Abstract

The structural ceramic materials, which clay is the main raw material, are usually employed in various construction types. Problems of premature degradation of the materials in these constructions are a major concern. This can lead to functional, aesthetic, economic and safety problems. Several factors may contribute to this situation and are related to the characteristics of the products and their material raw, also to the characteristics of the environment where they are applied. The physical, chemical, mechanical and aesthetic alteration produced by salt spray in these materials, were studied in three types of ceramic products and their variations quantified.
