Abstract

This article studies the forms of rootedness and strategies of integration among Asians resident in Lima from 1561 to 1645. The majority were of illegitimate birth, suggesting that for many the City of Kings represented the beginning of a new life, and the place where they would have to submit to processes of adaptation, settlement, and mere survival.
