Abstract
Resumo: As características petrográficas, físicas e mecânicas de três granitos ornamentais da região de Alpalhão - Castelo de Vide (SPI, Amarelo Gáfete e Branco Caravela) foram determinadas e
permitiram a comparação destes dados com os valores das especificações para diversas
utilizações, quer como rocha ornamental, quer como rocha industrial. Desse modo, foi possível
fazer o aconselhamento para a aplicação dos granitos em determinadas situações, evitando-se
problemas em obra ou durante o tempo de vida desta. Os resultados estão expressos em quadros
que permitem comparar a adequabilidade dos três granitos para a mesma aplicação ornamental e
industrial.
Abstract: The petrographic characteristics and the physical and mechanical properties of three ornamental granites of the Alpalhão - Castelo de Vide region (SPI, Amarelo Gáfete and Branco Caravela) were determined. These data were compared with the values of several specifications for use either as dimension stone or as industrial rock. With that information it was possible to advise the proper use of the granites, improving their performance during the lifetime. The results are expressed in tables that compare the suitability of the three granites for the same ornamental and industrial application.
