N2 - In Portugal, the high rates of self-employment suggest that this is still an important institution for autochthonous populations. How does this situation articulate with the booming influxes of migrants? Does competition in a zero-sum logic prevail, or is there a win-win multiplying effect to be expected? How is the economy of diversity beneficial specifically for the concentration of Lusophone1 migrants in Lisbon? These are the questions we intend to address in this chapter. We shall resort to statistical data and to the results of two surveys carried out in the Greater Lisbon area.
