Identité, narration et souffrance

Taking into account the limits that suffering imposes to a narrative conception of identity, how can we define the Self otherwise than through the mediation of language and action? The pertinence of the model of narrative self seems in difficulty as soon as we have to take simultaneously into account selfhood and suffering. Confronting Paul Ricœur and Michel Henry's works will allow us to make self-evident a pathos depth of which the locus is the proper body of aliving self exposed to the events that are not necessarily retrievablein terms of the intrigue of a narrative. Among other domains, this debate is of great importance to contemporary works on narrative medicine.
