Abstract
The system is an intelligent CASE tool for the development of computer integrated manufacturing systems' software architecture, and at the same time it is an engineering information management system. It was demonstrated how the fundamental structure of a hypothetical system can be defined using an IDEFO/SADT-like methodology. A catalogue manager was used to select the required resources. Functional modelling of the CIM system was supported by systematic classification of activities. The resources were listed in a catalogue, and a glossary contains the explanation of different terms. Based on stored rules, the system validated design decisions, checked for incoherence in the final structure and offered possible improvements.
