Abstract
Ionic liquids (ILs) have been used to induce the crystallization of hollow-core calcite crystals with single-crystal morphology and large internal cavities. The proposed mechanism of formation is related to the ability of ILs to stabilize air bubbles in solution and form nanostructured networks at the gas-water and solid-water interfaces.
