Abstract
Resumo: A diminuição das reservas de mármore localizadas próximo da superfície e o aumento das restrições ambientais levou ao desenvolvimento de novos métodos de exploração. A exploração subterrânea emerge desta necessidade conseguindo conciliar vantagens económicas, através do aproveitamento de zonas de boa qualidade ornamental anteriormente inacessíveis, e ambientais uma vez que não é necessário extrair tanto volume de estéril para atingir a massa mineral. Na pedreira “Texugo”, este método de exploração, iniciou-se em 2000, estando neste momento numa fase avançada, e com perspectivas de alargamento. A aplicação de técnicas de modelação por Métodos de Elementos Finitos, permite simular o comportamento do maciço nas vizinhanças da escavação e avaliar a segurança da exploração através do estudo do comportamento geomecânico e das condições de estabilidade do maciço.
Abstract: The reduction of superficial marble reserves together with more restrictive environmental regulations leads the development of new exploitation methods. Underground exploitation method emerges as an alternative to reconcile economical, through the use of ornamental quality areas previously inaccessible, and environmental advantages, decreasing volume of waste. This exploitation method was implemented in “Texugo” quarry during 2000, being now in anadvanced stages and enlargement perspectives. The application of modelling techniques basedon Finite Element Methods, allows to simulate the behaviour of the neighbourhood rock massand to evaluate the exploitation security through analysis of geomechanical behaviour and stability of the rock mass.
