Abstract

The MatLab project focuses on the recreational use of games as a contribution to the improvement of mathematics learning. In this paper I briefly introduce the project, after which I analyze the contribution of it to the mathematical learning of the students. In this analysis I take into account the influence of specific characteristics of the games and the atmosphere created in MatLab, given the students' previous mathematical knowledge. The study adopts a qualitative and interpretative methodological approach, undertaking two case studies of students of the 6th grade. The conclusions reached point to an improvement on students' mathematical knowledge, but emphasize the importance of the characteristics of the games in order to get the students' involvement.
