Gait Monitor and Analyzer (GMA): A Wearable Sensor-based Gait Analysis System

Abstract

Diagnosis of gait disorders is traditionally made by observing a patient walking, but this approach suffers from subjectivity and is limited by the difficulty of picking up on important details. The consequences are potential misdiagnosis and trouble tracking and evaluating patient progress. Considering this, we created a system to facilitate gait disorder diagnosis and assessment of patients' response to treatment, making them easier and less error-prone for physiotherapists. The system makes use of a wearable motion-sensing prototype that is worn by the patient.
