Abstract

Coming from a poor family in the Algarve, he rose to the status of mechanic sergeant in the Air Force and joined, in that institution, the high ranks of the Armed Forces which, following World War II, rebelled against the fascist dictatorial State. Enticed into an act of sabotage in "April 1947", he was arrested for a crime against State security. Being a prisoner, he managed to escape from a political prison and expatriate himself, thus aggravating his condition as a defendant. Thereafter, he could never return to the country unless he subjected himself to certain arrest, as occurred twice, in fact.
