Abstract

A partir de um apontamento autógrafo presente no Diário de Dom Frei Manuel do Cenáculo, podemos reconstituir os últimos dias vividos em Lisboa pelo destituído Presidente da Real Mesa Censória antes de se retirar para Beja, para aí exercer as funções prelatícias do seu Bispado. Das suas palavras ressalta o desmoronamento de uma época de que fora figura cimeira e destaca-se a sua grandeza moral face à adversidade.

Based on an autograph entry of the Diary of Dom Frei Manuel do Cenáculo, we can reconstruct the last days lived in Lisbon by the destitute President of the Royal Censorship Bureau before leaving to Beja, to exercise the prelate functions of his Bishopric there. From his words, we can highlight the collapse of an era in which he had been a leading figure, standing out his moral greatness in the face of adversity.
