Abstract
The aim of this communication is to present a project of valuation in archaeology and history, located in Ria Formosa, Olhão. The construction of São Lourenço Fortress in 1653, was integrated in the planning of maritime defense of the Algarve coast and specifically in the defense of the bar access to Faro. An awareness work among the local maritime community that was done between 2008 and 2012. An heritage that can only be observed in periods of low seas. The remains of the Fortress, still linger in the local memory between the maritime communities of fishermen and shellfish gatherers who go fishing “to the octopuses of the Fortress” that lurk within the three canons that remain in place.
