Abstract

The present contribution looks closely at an illuminated parchment fragment which recently reappeared on the antiques market and was sold by Sotheby’s in 2016. According to our study, the illumination is linked to the Speculum Humanae Salvationis workshop, active in Avignon in the thirties and forties of the fourteenth century and it is possible that the fragment originally belonged to a volume, presumably lost, which was illuminated in that workshop during the papacy of Pope Benedict XII (1334-1342) as one of a pair with a Missal (Paris BnF lat. 877) destined for the cathedral of Toulon.
