Abstract
If the strictly military aspects of the First World War have by now been relatively well examined, certain areas still remain in the shadows, and among them the question of those in captivity. This article broaches the subject from the point of view of the Portuguese prisoners of war held in Germany and examines, in a comparatist form, their odyssee from capture to repatriation, the principal material problem they faced, and the psychological effects they suffered.
