Abstract
Archaeological excavations conducted by the author in 2007 and 2016, in the Silves’ Castle, led to the discovery of an important set of wall plasters fragments outside a 12th century palace, located in an area south-east inside that alcazaba. These architectonical elements were laid over a well preserved floor made with a mixture of sand and lime. The plasters correspond to parts of arches possessing reliefs, incisions, excisions and paintings, and sectors of walls decorated with architectonical, epigraphic, phytomorphic and geometric motifs. One of the most interesting characteristics of these plasters is the fact that their primitive polychromous decorations were covered with lime, hiding the original work, an action which may be related to some religious precept adopted when the Almorávides arrive in this part of the Gharb al-Andalus. Keywords: Silves, Castle, Palace, Decorated plasters.
