Estudos sobre a(s) polícia(s) e os desafios contemporâneos

Este livro coletivo, desenvolvido no âmbito do projeto de investigação HMPP – História, Memória e Património das Polícias (fruto de um protocolo assinado entre a Polícia de Segurança Pública e a Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa), aborda diversos aspetos da evolução, do papel e da história das forças de polícia, em diferentes contextos e países, durante a Idade Contemporânea. São apresentadas três perspetivas.
Por um lado, inclui capítulos de caráter histórico que analisam questões como as disputas em torno das origens das forças de segurança pública, o caráter precursor de algumas instituições do Antigo Regime, o processo de integração da mulher, as relações menos evidentes entre a população e as polícias políticas, bem como as culturas policiais.
Por outro lado, aborda temas atuais, que vão desde as reformas organizativas ao papel dos direitos humanos na formação e ação policial, a luta antiterrorista, as fronteiras entre o mundo policial e o militar, a corrupção, o abuso e a denúncia dentro da disciplina das forças de polícia, e a proteção ambiental.
Por fim, conta também com um capítulo sobre a preservação e a musealização do património policial.
Em síntese, esta obra oferece uma ampla reflexão sobre variadas dimensões das relações que existem entre polícia, segurança e sociedade.
This collective book, developed within the scope of the HMPP research project – History, Memory, and Heritage of the Police (the result of a protocol signed between the Public Security Police and the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of NOVA University Lisbon), addresses various aspects of the evolution, role, and history of police forces in different contexts and countries during the Contemporary Age. Three perspectives are presented.
On the one hand, it includes historical chapters that analyze issues such as the disputes surrounding the origins of public security forces, the pioneering character of some institutions of the Ancien Régime, the process of women's integration, the less evident relationships between the population and political police forces, as well as police cultures.
On the other hand, it deals with current topics ranging from organizational reforms to the role of human rights in police training and action, the fight against terrorism, the boundaries between the police and military spheres, corruption, abuse and whistleblowing within police forces, and environmental protection.
Finally, it also includes a chapter on the preservation and musealization of police heritage.
In summary, this work offers a broad reflection on various dimensions of the relationships between police, security, and society.
