Episodes of the Arts of Fire in Portugal during the Renaissance

Abstract

This contribution seeks to shed light on the issue of the use of earth and clay in Portugal during the Renaissance period. To approach this topic, which chronologically spans 15th and 16th centuries, the essay has been divided into three major fields, which summarise multifaceted production of earthenware in the Portuguese kingdom. Far from being a text that answers all the questions that may be asked, this is above all a wide-ranging assessment of a subject that has not always profited from the attention of specialists.
