Abstract

Within the conceptual field of Human Ecology and Health Ecology and analyzing data provided from several institutions such as the European Commission, IPCC; OECD; WHO; UN and the WWF, this essay seeks to contribute to the debate about the impact of environmental degradation on the social determinants of health (food, air, water, housing) and how actions focused on prevention/mitigation of climate change can impact positively both on health issues and the transition to a paradigm of sustainable development. Mutually reinforcing environmental policies and greater environmental responsibility will have an impact in terms of health benefits, while the goal of better health grants greater legitimacy to the prevention of environmental degradation. Building on the indicators that these institutions with international responsibility and relevance have been producing in the last few years as an analytical basis, the advantages of affirming the notion that a good environmental management plays a key role in health protection were identified, sustaining an integrated approach to these themes.
