Estuaries and Climate Changes: Challanges to Land Use Planning in Tagus Estuary Region – The City of Lisbon Case

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapter

Abstract

Climate change, resulting in sea level rise, higher and more intense discharges of rivers and their tributaries, and changes in weather patterns, are in the European agenda. As consequence of this phenomenon, the urbanized estuaries and deltas are, again, on top of the most vulnerable areas. Indeed, taking into account the case of the Tagus Estuary, the paper contextualizes the issue of climate change and estuaries, and discusses the preliminary results of modeling the effects of the sea level rise in the city of Lisbon.
