Abstract
Three samples of clays were studied from the area of Caldas da Rainha, in terms of their resistance to salt spray to various cooking temperatures, 950º, 1100º and 1200 º C. Samples were prepared by vacuum extrusion and subjected to cycles of salt fog. Soon after the 1st cycle, the material showed different behaviour at different temperatures and there is a greater resistance to high temperatures and a different behaviour at low temperatures, showing salt deposits that form on the surface of ceramic materials (efflorescence).
