Abstract
This article refers to a research project carried out in an academic context, with 3rd year students of the degree in Communication Design of the Polytechnic of Portalegre, which aims to define a tool to help the implementation of sustainability criteria in the development of packaging and label design projects and, at the same time, be an effective contribution in education for ecoliteracy. Based on examples found in a recent literature review, a "Packaging and Label Ecodesign Checklist" was created, which was later applied in the development of an academic project. Upon
completion of the project, students were surveyed about their experience using the checklist during the course of the project. Focus groups and online questionnaires were conducted; both the responses and observations collected, as well as the
evaluation of the final results of the projects, confirmed the usefulness of the checklist created and its contribution to increasing students' ecoliteracy and their ability to create
more sustainable solutions when defining packaging and labels.
