Abstract
The silence incorporated in the silence of the body – the performer’s becoming body that is made during the rehearsals of the work After Kaprow / The Silent Room (2011), by choreographer Rosemary Butcher – is the vital element of the creation process. Silence is the continuum substrate for the transformation of the body, the connection between two beings (choreographer and performer), the formation of forms and the creation of a space of silence and plenitude. Silence and its creation of emptiness establish an interval between, on the one hand, the triviality of the body and its forms and, on the other hand, the singularity of the silence of the body and its object-sensations. Through rhythm, the silence of the body captures the forces of things and the world, becoming a reservoir of the life of bodies in another space, in another time. The silence of the body is a becoming body that captures images of itself, of things and the world. The object-sensations are the beings of silence and emptiness, the becoming-pulsing of life.
