Abstract
This study investigates the acquisition of there-constructions in advanced and near-native English by L1 speakers of French and European Portuguese. Its results show that, at the end-state of L2 acquisition, optionality is selective: it affects an external interface like the syntax-discourse interface, but not an internal interface like the lexicon-syntax interface.
