Abstract
Focusing on European Portuguese, throughout this chapter deixis will be considered as a phenomenon within language conceived as an activity of representation, of reference construction and subjective adjustment. Deixis implies a particular type of linguistic referential construction that includes perceptual and cognitive processes. Deictic values are constructed as referential values based in the enunciator/speakerandher/hiscoenunciator/interlocutor, both embedded in their subjective and spatial-temporal context. This chapter shows the deictic markers in European Portuguese, theirforms, constructionsanduse.
