Abstract
O texto trata dos escravos no Sul de Portugal durante a Época Moderna, focando em particular a dupla natureza, humana e de bem material, da sua condição. Essa ambiguidade irá permitir, após a alforria, a assunção plena da vertente humana, embora os libertos e seus descendentes venham a ser ainda vítimas de numerosas exclusões e preconceitos sociais.
The article concerns to slaves in South of Portugal throughout Modern Ages. It approaches particularly the double nature of their human and material condition. That ambiguity will permit their full humanity, after the enfranchisement. However, either the free people or their descendants will still be victims of many rejections and social prejudices.
