Abstract
Entre as vozes que mais expressivamente estabeleceram o diálogo luso-italiano durante a centúria de Quatrocentos, sobressai, de forma inequívoca, a do abade D. Gomes Eanes, que rumou a Itália em 1409, para estudar leis e só regressou em definitivo ao reino natal em 1441, para assumir o priorado do mosteiro de Santa Cruz de Coimbra. Mas que contornos assumiu a sua acção no tempo e no espaço? Com que figuras se relacionou? Que opções culturais, religiosas e até políticas assumiu no desenvolvimento do seu percurso? E, sobretudo, que consequências teve a sua actividade? Partindo do seu carteggio, disperso por três núcleos documentais principais (códice Ashburnam 1792, o códice Abadia 4 e o códice Abadia 28), mas dando especial relevância ao primeiro de entre eles, a presente comunicação visa, pois, reflectir sobre a natureza das diversas dimensões da acção de D. Gomes Eanes no quadro das relações mantidas entre Portugal e a Itália no século XV.
Among the voices that most expressively established the luso-Italian dialogue during the 15th century, stands out unequivocally that of the abbot D. Gomes Eanes, who went to Italy in 1409 to study laws and only definitively returned to his native kingdom in 1441, to take over the priory of the monastery of Santa Cruz de Coimbra. But what outlines took its action in time and space? Who did he relate to? What cultural, religious and even political choices did he take in the development of his course? And above all, what consequences did his activity have? From its carteggio, dispersed by three main documentary collections (codex Ashburnam 1792, codex Abbey 4 and codex Abbey 28), but giving special importance to the first of them, this communication aims, therefore, to reflect on the nature of the various dimensions of the action of D. Gomes Eanes in the context of relations between Portugal and Italy in the 15th century.
