Abstract

Determinologization is the process by which specialized terms enter everyday discourse. By analyzing terms from the Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa Contemporânea (2001) and the Dicionário da Língua Portuguesa (2023), we demonstrate how these shifts are addressed in the new Portuguese Academy dictionary. Strategies such as usage labels and notes are suggested to help identify these subtle changes in meaning.
