Abstract
Este capítulo incide sobre o editor de livros e o papel de mediação cultural e social que este exerce na sua actividade prescritiva e sobre a edição enquanto processo de produção e circulação de ideias ordenadoras da realidade. Procura-se analisar o editor enquanto personagem social nas suas práticas e a actividade editorial enquanto quadro de constituição de públicos, mercados, hierarquias e modos de ler e extrair sentido.
This chapter focuses on the book publisher and the role of cultural and social mediation that they play in their prescriptive activity and on publishing as a process of production and circulation of ideas that order reality. The aim is to analyse the publisher as a social character in their practices and the publishing activity as a framework for the constitution of audiences, markets, hierarchies, and ways of reading and ascribing meaning.
