Cristianismo e revolução: uma leitura do romance Directa, de Nuno Bragança, à luz do conceito de evolução de Teilhard de Chardin

Ambientado no Portugal salazarista dos anos sessenta, o romance Directa (1977) é, segundo seu próprio autor, o escritor português Nuno Bragança, “a história de alguém que vive numa perspectiva cristã a luta revolucionária”. O objetivo deste artigo é investigar de que forma cristianismo e revolução se associam no romance Directa, em especial no modo de pensar e agir do protagonista Aníbal. Para isso, iremos lançar mão de alguns elementos centrais do pensamento do padre jesuíta Teilhard de Chardin, sobretudo seu conceito de evolução, entendido como expressão de uma criação inacabada e que, portanto, continua nas mãos dos seres humanos. É nesse momento que se coloca o problema da ação, que desperta, ao mesmo tempo, sentimentos otimistas e trágicos. Afinal, para que seja concluída a criação, é necessário que os seres humanos sejam co-operários de Deus – tarefa à qual Aníbal se dedica com afinco, visionando um futuro redentor para a humanidade.

Set in sixties Salazarist Portugal, the novel Directa (1977) is, according to its own author, the Portuguese writer Nuno Bragança, “the story of someone who lives the revolutionary struggle in a Christian perspective”. The purpose of this article is to investigate how Christianity and revolution are associated in the novel Directa, especially in the way of thinking and acting of the protagonist Aníbal.
For this, we will make use of some central elements of the thought of the Jesuit priest Teilhard de Chardin, especially his concept of evolution, understood as an expression of an unfinished creation and that, therefore, is under the responsability of human beings. It is at this moment that the problem of action arises, which
awakens, at the same time, optimistic and tragic feelings. After all, for creation to be completed, it is necessary for human beings to be co-workers with God - a task to which Aníbal dedicates himself diligently, envisioning a redemptive future for humanity.
