Abstract
La gestión forestal moderna llega a Portugal en la década de 1860. A través de los trabajos de ingenieros como Barros Gomes (1839-1910), algunos montes del Estado, como la Mata Nacional da Machada, cambian de manera radical el paradigma de gestión. Desde este momento, elementos como una cartografía precisa o la ordenación territorial pasan a ser la nueva base de un manejo, que hoy recibiría el adjetivo de sostenible.
The modern forest management arrives to Portugal in the 1860s. Through the works of foresters as Barros Gomes (1839-1910), some public forests as the “Mata Nacional da Machada”, change radically the management paradigm. From this moment, elements as an accurate cartography or the territorial order, become the new base of a management type, that today receives the qualification of sustainable.
