Control of an electromagnetic aircraft launch system based on a superconducting linear synchronous motor

Abstract

This paper presents a control strategy for an electromagnetic aircraft launch system based on a linear synchronous motor with high temperature superconductor materials in the armature and in the field excitation system. The motor has pre-magnetised YBCO pellets in the field excitation system and BSCCO armature windings are described, and its designed to act as an electromagnetic aircraft launch system. The control strategy is discussed and simulation results are presented.
