Abstract

This paper aims to contribute to a better understanding ofinflected infinitive in Classic Portuguese. In works such asMartins (2006) and Fiéis & Madeira (2014), it can be observedthat the distribution of inflected infinitive changesfrom Old to Modern Portuguese. Based on a corpus froman archive located in the Braga district, with notarial textsfrom the xvii century (1650-1700), we will describe theuse of the inflected infinitive in infinitival complementationduring this period, assessing the conditions that allowed its widening to other contexts in Modern Portuguese.
