The book focus on Sustainable Cities and in particularly shows the outcomes, the learning process and the knowledge created in the context of a one year "Diploma de Estudos Pós-Graduados in Sustainable Cities". It starts with an overview of the importance of cities and their central role on sustainable development. Then it explains the learning targets of the Course and presents it structure and goals. The book gives an overview of the different modules and knowledge areas most relevant to sustainable cities. It explains the different geographical scales adopted: cities, neighborhoods and buildings. The main body of the book sums up the outcomes of group works and study visits and shows a summary of the Urban Auditing procedures that were conducted in four urban areas in the great Lisbon. The book is valuable not only as a report of the work done, but most important it presents new methodologies and work procedures that were redefined and, in some cases, newly developed and applied in concrete situations in the context of the audited urban areas, that may be of value to the reader.
