Abstract
The PRC is currently the largest
consumer of energy and the second largest importer of oil. For Beijing, energy security
is a recent concern, but extremely important for the continued economic development,
political and social stability and national security. To analyze how concerns about energy security in China can shape the PRC's relations with Portuguese-speaking
countries were chosen three case studies: Angola, Brazil, as oil-exporting countries and
East Timor as a potential gas exporting country. Through a comparative analysis we
evaluated the contribution of these three countries to the security of energy supply of the
PRC, with the scope of our analysis of how the relations with these countries reflect China's concerns about energy security
