Abstract

The study proposes to define the notion of border in the framework of the book censorship studies, highlighting the different kind of boundaries that existed, or were invoked, according to state and ecclesiastical legalities. In terms of political and legal borders, these are concerned at three levels: 1. the Iberian question; 2. the inquisitorial countries (mainly Italy, Portugal, Spain and the Iberian empires); 3. Europe. Another one is of epistemological nature, that who leads to discriminate two levels, macro and microcensorship, being the latter of main consideration.
