Abstract

Industrial symbiosis is recognized as a practice that through collaboration between traditionally separate industries, enables sustainable development with environmental, economic and social benefits. Extending them to adjacent urban areas maximizes these potential benefits. However, these synergies still face many challenges, especially regarding the incorporation of the latest technological advances. Thus, this paper aims to present a conceptual framework that represents the main flows of waste and resources between eco-industrial parks and urban areas, focusing on the capture of carbon dioxide and its transformation into fuel. It also aims to present the main benefits and impacts that industrial and urban symbiosis can provide.
