Abstract
The purpose of the present investigation was to study the relationship between burnout, satisfaction with life, depression and the workload in teachers of several teaching levels, in a sample of 308 teachers, 123 of the male gender and 185 of the female gender, with an age average of 41,63 years old (SD=10,12). The following measures were used: Maslach Burnout Inventory (Maslach, Jackson, & Leiter, 1996), Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diener, 1984) and Beck Depression Inventory (Beck, Steer & Garbin, 1988). The results showed that teachers with a larger workload presented more symptoms of depression, but the data didn't show a relationship with burnout or satisfaction with life. Women showed higher levels of burnout, in terms of depersonalization and emotional exhaustion in comparison to men.
