Abstract
This paper intends to look at the religious Buddhist spaces which were described in the "Historia de Japam", by Portuguese Jesuits who passed through the Japanese islands in the 16th century.
Of the fve volumes that compose this work, only one contains descriptions and refections on those spaces, in a total of four great complexes, which were written by the hands of Luís Fróis and Luís de Almeida. We will examine which elements gathered the attention of these two priests, for the production of the image of the Buddhist spaces of worship that was conveyed to early modern Europe.
