AURÉLIA DE SOUZA. Mulheres Artistas em 1900

O congresso “Aurélia de Souza. Mulheres Artistas em 1900” decorreu nos dias 13, 14 e 15 de Abril de 2023, no âmbito das celebrações do centenário da morte de Aurélia de Souza e na sequência de uma proposta apresentada pelo Instituto de História da Arte (Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade NOVA de Lisboa) ao Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis e à Câmara Municipal de Matosinhos que foram parceiros generosos desta iniciativa.
Após um longo percurso que cumpriu todas as exigências de um congresso científico, foi lançada uma Chamada de Capítulos para eBook em acesso aberto e com atribuição de DOI.
Esta publicação apresenta os textos seleccionados pela comissão científica, avaliados por pares (double-blind peer review), revistos pelos respectivos autores e organizados pelos editores em cinco secções: “Aurélia por Aurélia”, “Après Aurélia de Souza: revisitações e desdobramentos na contemporaneidade”, “Auto-representação”, “Artistas mulheres: contra-canonização” e “Interartes: poesia e música”. Deste modo, e como era nosso propósito, Aurélia é tratada em alguns aspectos da sua imensa particularidade, abre campo a outras artistas (e também uma fotógrafa) e é posta em relação com outros domínios dos estudos culturais, nomeadamente a literatura e a música. Por outro lado, o facto de Aurélia de Souza ter vindo a interessar alguns artistas contemporâneos permitiu alargar o âmbito cronológico desta publicação à contemporaneidade, incluindo as “artes derivativas”.
No mesmo ano em que foi apresentado o Catálogo Raisonné dedicado a Aurélia de Souza, esta publicação pretende ser mais um contributo para o estudo e difusão da obra de uma das artistas mais significativas da arte portuguesa e que ultimamente tem merecido reconhecimento internacional.
The conference ‘Aurélia de Souza. Women artists at the turn of the 20th century’ took place on 13, 14 and 15 April 2023, as part of the celebrations for the centenary of Aurélia de Souza’s death and following a proposal put forward by the Art History Institute (School of Social Sciences and Humanities – NOVA University) to the Soares dos Reis National Museum and the Matosinhos City Council, who were generous partners in this initiative.
After a long process that fulfilled all the requirements of a scientific congress, a Call for Chapters for an open access eBook with DOI was launched.
This publication presents the texts selected by the scientific committee, with double-blind peer review, reviewed by the respective authors and organised by the editors into five sections: ‘Aurélia by Aurélia’, ‘Après Aurélia de Souza: revisitations and developments in contemporary times’, ‘Self-representation’, ‘Women artists: counter-canonisation’ and ‘Interarts: poetry and music’. In this way, and as was our intention, Aurélia is treated in some aspects of her immense particularity, opens up the field to other artists (and also a photographer) and is put in relation with other areas of cultural studies, namely literature and music. On the other hand, the fact that Aurélia de Souza has come to interest some contemporary artists has made it possible to extend the chronological scope of this publication to contemporary times, including the ‘derivative arts’.
In the same year that the Catalogue Raisonné dedicated to Aurélia de Souza was presented, this publication aims to make a further contribution to the study and dissemination of the work of one of the most significant artists in Portuguese art, who has recently gained international recognition.
