Abstract
In this chapter we aim to reflect upon the already complex relationship between journalism and its audiences, bearing particularly in mind the new challenges introduced by a hiper-digitalized society. If we can say that historically journalism presents a distant relationship with its public, on the other hand the transformations brought by the digitalization processes confront journalistic production and normative stances with disputes that may imply a paradigm change. Departing from a theoretical review of approaches related to the public sphere pluralization, informational democratization, participatory journalism and the connection between journalism and audiences (particularly younger generations), we shall briefly explore the new (and challenging) dynamics due to the current digital and societal evolution, namely in the last decade.
