Abstract

Alzheimer patients tend to forget and to lose perception of many aspects of life. A major concern is the increased probability of losing the notion of the current location and how to return to a known place. In order to address such concern, technology can provide the tools to monitor and act according to identified risky situations. The assistive system’s architecture will evaluate the risk and will not disclose any data unless there is some identifiable risk. The system will monitor the persons behavior with sensors, evaluating if there is a fall as position is retrieved in real-time. The system will also monitor heartbeat and will determine if it is outside a given range. If a risky situation is identified the patient is asked to respond correcting in case of a false positive, if there is no response, the system will send a warning to a selected person sending also the current position of that patient. The system aims to provide a service to Alzheimer patients that will avoid recurrent notices that some older patient is missing, sometimes with an unpleasant result for the person with Alzheimer or other type of Dementia.
