Abstract
The authors pretend to describe and analyze comparatively – using several artifactual samples recovered during an archaeological intervention in Avenida 5 de Outubro n.ºs 2‑8, in Santarém, whose deposition processes suggest a high chronological homogeneity of the materials – the chronotypological and cultural aspects of the pottery that circulated in this city between the 11th and 14th centuries. The main goal of this methodological process is to demonstrate that, despite the existence of some local differences, we can individualize a distinct cultural unit in the Baixo Tejo region, in which the mediterranean characters remained largely dominant even after the integration of this area in the christian political dominium.
