Abstract
Mário de Sá-Carneiro’s poetic work explores intensely the authorial identity. Entering into a dialogue with some of the several critical works on this author, this study proposes a reading of his poetic work based on the oscillation between euphoric and dysphoric images of the self and on the pronominal connection between I-other, which contradicts the separative interpretation of «dispersion». In this regard, the poem «Aquele outro» stands as Sá-Carneiro’s most complete self-portrait, assuming his authorial self and combining antithetical epithets.
